“I cannot tell you how much I have been enjoying my new sirtfood planner. It is helping me keep on track and make sure I drink enough green juice. I have just started and cannot wait to lose weight like adele has done.” – Kathy S.
The main reason everyone is crazy about the Sirtfood Diet is because the lovable singer, Adele, has lost an astonishing 100 lbs. on the diet.
Adele’s trainer credits the Sirtfood Diet for 90% of her weight loss. When I found this out, I immediately began researching the Sirtfood diet and purchased the book, The Sirtfood Diet.
Check out Adele’s birthday post on Instagram! 😱Happy 32nd birthday, Adele!
I have been on the Sirtfood Diet for 3 months now and have lost 25 lbs and KEPT IT OFF. I will keep you all updated on my progress with this diet as I retake the phases.

What foods can you eat on the Sirtfood Diet?
I personally hate exercising. If a diet can achieve 90% of the weight loss results for someone, then I have got to try it. According to the book, the Sirtfood Diet can help you boost energy and burn fat by eating sirtfoods.
On the diet, you can drink red wine and eat dark chocolate, which I love! My favorite way to relax after a long day of working is to have a nice glass of wine.
A diet that encourages wine drinking is OK in my book!
Some other foods you are encouraged to eat on the Sirtfood Diet are:
- Kale
- Strawberries – My favorite fruit of all time!
- Onions
- Soy
- Matcha green tea – Starbucks green tea lattes rule!
- Blueberries
- Coffee – Coffee is my LIFE!
- Walnuts
- Extra virgin olive oil – This makes an excellent salad dressing
- Medjool dates
- Parsley
- Buckwheat
You also need to drink Sirtfood Green Juice at least three times a day.
My Busy Mom Sirtfood Green Juice Recipe
- 3 oz of kale
- 3 grams of parsley
- 1.5 oz of arugula
- 2 celery sticks
- 1 tsp of ground ginger
- Half a Granny Smith apple
- 1 tsp of matcha green tea powder
- Half a lemon
With a juicer, juice all of the ingredients except for the lemon and matcha green tea powder. Juice the lemon by hand and mix in the matcha green tea powder in your cup.
You can get matcha green tea powder at most Asian grocery stores if your local grocery store doesn’t carry it.
I make two pitchers of juice on Sunday and Wednesday since I am a busy working mom. I then bring 20 oz of juice to work in a thermos.
At breakfast, I drink one half and drink the other half at lunch.
How does the Sirtfood Diet work?
The creators of the Sirtfood Diet, Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten, say that the Sirtfood diet ignites a “skinny gene” that everyone has called sirtuin.
The sirtfoods mentioned above supercharge your body’s skinny gene and cause you lose weight rapidly. Sirtuin is activated after a shortage of calories and the consumption of the sirtfoods.
The creators of the Sirtfood Diet, Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten, say that the Sirtfood diet ignites a “skinny gene” that everyone has called sirtuin.
In 2015, there was a study conducted by Goggins and Matten, where 39 participants lost 7 lbs. in only seven days.
How do you do the Sirtfood Diet?
There are two phases in the diet.
First Phase
The first phase lasts three days and restricts your calorie intake to 1,000. You can drink 3 glasses of green juice a day and have one Sirtfood Diet approved meal.
Having one meal is the most challenging part of the diet, in my opinion.
The meal that I had for one day was a kale and arugula salad with slices of strawberries, celery, onions, walnuts, and extra virgin olive oil as a dressing.
Second Phase
Phase two lasts four days and consists of 2 glasses of green juice and 2 meals. The calorie allotment jumps up to 1,500.
Maintenance Phase
When both phases are over, a maintenance phase is put into effect. This phase focuses on sensible portions and filling up on sirtfoods.
For fourteen days, you eat three meals, one green juice, and one or two sirtfood snacks.
Having one meal is the most challenging part of the diet, in my opinion.
You are also encouraged to complete 30 minutes a day of exercise. What I do is just walk around the block with my dog for 15 minutes in the morning and evening.
What are the benefits of the Sirtfood Diet?
Because you are restricting calories to 1,000 and 1,500, you will lose weight. You can lose weight eating so little calories with any foods you consume.
The creators of the Sirtfood diet say you lose weight and maintain it from igniting the sirtuin gene.
I’m no dietician so I am unfamiliar with the sirtuin gene and how it works exactly.
How does being on the Sirtfood Diet make you feel?
After being on the Sirtfood diet for a month, I have lost 15 lbs. and have kept it off.
I have lots of energy and am not feeling hungry at all.
No longer do I wake up groggy and tired. I have more energy to chase after my 4-year-old boy, Bryan!
What meals do you eat on the Sirtfood Diet?
In the morning, the favorite meal is buckwheat and apple pancakes with a glass of green juice. I make the pancakes with eggs, buckwheat, and apple slices.
For a topping, I use powdered matcha green tea. It tastes sweet but does sound nasty if you aren’t familiar with it.
Matcha green tea lattes from Starbucks are super tasty. I tell them to use heavy whipping cream in mine to adjust the carb count.
At lunchtime, meals consist of salads made with kale and arugula with extra virgin olive oil dressing. This is super easy to pack the night before in my Tupperware.
For dinner, I will have buckwheat noodles and chicken with a kale and arugula salad. I like to garnish the meal with grilled onions and parsley.
As a dessert, I like to eat sliced strawberries with matcha green tea powder or a piece of dark chocolate.
The Sirtfood Diet book has other recipes that you can eat while on the diet. You can also Google, “Sirtfood Diet Recipes,” for free.
Are sirtfoods considered the new superfoods?
Sirtfoods are mostly healthy foods that have benefits to your health.
Dark chocolate, for instance, can lower the risk of heart disease and inflammation.
Red wine has similar benefits to your health.
Matcha green tea may reduce the risk of diabetes and stroke. It can also lower your blood pressure.
Researchers have found that an increased supply of sirtuin proteins in mice have led to longer lifespans.
When you are on a restrictive calorie diet, sirtuins tell the body to burn more fat for energy. A study in mice found that increased sirtuin led to fat loss.
Very little is known by researches on the benefits of sirtfoods for humans.
What are the precautions of the Sirtfood Diet?
The plan is strict because there are no substitutions with the food choices. You can only lose weight if the caloric count is maintained.
Because of the low-calorie count, this diet can be hard to maintain long term.
I been on the Sirtfood Diet 3 weeks and feel I could keep it going around round, personally.
How do you maintain the Sirtfood diet?
It is encouraged to repeat the phases of the diet as desired until you achieve your weight loss goal.
Each day, you should have a glass of green juice to maintain the sirtuin effect.
I believe that the Sirtfood diet is more of a lifestyle change than a one-time diet.
After being on the keto diet for several years, I now prefer the Sirtfood diet.
My bowel movements are more comfortable to pass, as an example. This is because you can have more fruit and grains on the Sirtfood Diet.
As I continue with this diet, I will update this post with my progress.
Is the Sirtfood Diet Healthy?
It is not recommended to eat less than 1,000 calories without a physician’s supervision.
My physician thinks I should up my calories to at least 2,000 a day.
However, I want to lose my baby weight so I have been eating 1,500-1,700 calories a day for the last month.
Is this healthy?
You are eating vegetables, fruits, grains, and meats with this diet, so it does sound healthy.
However, the restrictive calorie count would state otherwise.
You should check with your own physician before proceeding with this diet.
What are the side effects of the Sirtfood Diet?
Because the diet has such a short duration, the restrictive calorie content isn’t that much of a concern.
If you have diabetes, then this diet is not recommended because of all the sugary green juice.
When you eat only 1,000 to 1,500 calories a day, you are left feeling hungry. I personally do not feel famished since being on the diet because of the sirtfood snacks.
The diet is meant to be followed in only three weeks, so serious health problems are unlikely.
Is the Sirtfood Diet for you?
If you love drinking juice and eating salads, then you could do the Sirtfood Diet.
Those who enjoy fried foods like French fries and fried chicken would have a tougher time following the diet.
I’ve always loved drinking juice and having salads for lunch, so this diet isn’t that hard for me to follow.
Eating fruits is a bonus of the Sirtfood Diet. When I was on keto, I severely limited my fruit intake.
Sugar is something that my body is also craving. The fact that I can eat sugary fruits like dates and strawberries is a plus in my book!

Hi started sirtfood diet Monday 17th Feb , 4th day today and have lost 4lbs. I have 3 stone to lose so along way off from target weight . I was wondering if I can repeat phase one again instead of starting phase 2 just to gain some more quick weight loss ? I want to continue my weight loss journey and fearful that after the 3 weeks the weight will only maintain and I will not lose anymore. As the diet doesn’t really break down the calorie value of each meal it’s hard to keep track .
Well done on your success by the way .
Yours kindly
Suzanne
Becky says
No the book says to start again after completing phase 2. You need more calories after phase 2 or your body will go into starvation mode. You will gain weight if this happens.
Beverly says
Any exercise I need to incorporate on this lifestyle eating plan? Starting Monday and going to follow your blog as well!!
Becky says
Hello, Beverly! No exercise is required on the diet. That’s why Adele said she loves it so much. I make sure to walk 30 minutes at least 3 times a week myself. It just helps me focus and gain clarity. It’s not really for exercise purposes. The caloric intake is so low that you really aren’t supposed to exercise. With more exercise, you have to consume more calories.

Hi Becky,
Thank you for sharing your very inspiring journey of weightloss with Sirtfood diet.
If I were to buy but ONE book, with should I get the Original (link above) or the new Sirtfood RECIPE book? could you advise?
Love and regards,
Kat
Becky says
Hi! I have the original book from the creators. If you want to go all in, the 2nd book would be helpful too. The first book only has 100 recipes. 😃❤️
Cristina says
Should the juice be straight matcha powder? I found one that is Matcha + Protein and I’m not sure if it’s just as good. I will have to order the other one online if needed.
Becky says
I haven’t tried a juice blend with only matcha powder! Let me know how it tastes.
caroline says
Hello, I bought the book but I didn’t understand one point: if i don’t achieve my goal after phase 2 should I start phase 1 again or stay in phase 2 until I reach my goal? Thanks, Caroline
Becky says
Hello! Start the phase 1 again after completing phase 2.

Hi! Good luck on your adventure! Nim allergic to shellfish and Kale. Do you HAVE TO EAT THESE IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT?? Also, how do I follow your journey of this diet?
Becky says
No, you do not have to eat any shellfish. I am not publishing my journey online anywhere. I have been making updates to this post as I lose more weight. I’m plateauing right now.
Margarita Rodríguez says
Hello
the second day it was hard but I feel great and this is my 3 day of phase 1 already los 2 pounds , thanks for your help!
Becky says
That’s great! You got this!
Elise says
Hi Becky! Thanks for the post. I’m searching for a diet that really works. I already look up all the info available, but didn’t buy the book yet. I would like to know if the book has recipes with more ingredients or we are supposed to eat only the sirtfood items? I saw the list is very strict. I’m so tired to buy books and special ingredients that cost so much $$, and be frustrating with all the failure. Thanks again.
Becky says
Yes the book has many recipes with other sirtfoods for ingredients. This diet is restrictive, but you don’t have to exercise while doing it. You are eating lower calories and carbs. Always consult a doctor before doing the diet if you are unsure if it is healthy for you.
DiDi says
Hi
What about Diabetic 1?
Is this diet relevant?
I don’t see any critical sugary effect in the juices..
Can the insulin balance it?
Thank you for your informative article !
Becky says
I don’t know. You will have to ask your doctor. In the article, I say that you shouldn’t do this diet without consulting your doctor.
Yvette says
Hello , I made the green juice today and did struggle to enjoy the drink , I am not a lover of kale or celery , i appreciate that these are keys ingredients and are a must but can I add any other fruit or veg that may make it a tad sweeter ?
many thanks
Becky says
You could add in Spenda or another sugar free sweetner. I’m used to the taste so it doesn’t bother me. It sure beats working out, which I hate.
Stephanie says
I don’t want to buy a juicer, do you think my nurse bullet is good enough? This all sounds like a good kick start to my weight loss!
Stephanie says
Nutra Bullet
Becky says
Sure! I have a ninja chopper that I use to make the drink. It fills me up more because the fiber from the vegetables stays with it.
KD says
Thanks for the post and congrats on your weight loss. I have been doing this for 11 days now and I’m down 8 lbs. I haven’t been following it exactly for the last few days and I’m shocked every morning when I’m down another pound! I find that I am not hungry when I drink the juice and so I’m eating later in the day and usually only eating once still. My goal this week is to follow the plan more closely and eat the meals. At this point, I would encourage the plan for anybody with no medical conditions. Otherwise, always check with you healthcare provider as recommended! Thanks again!
Becky says
Thanks! I’m glad it is working for you! <3
Maria V says
Hi Becky,
Im planning to start my journey but I still have few questions about this diet. On phase 1 it’s just one meal and 3 drinks, no snacks right?! And after phase 2 we can go back to phase 1 if I want to keep losing weight and then until I get my ideal weight I will start the maintenance phase which is 3 meals and 2 snacks, correct?! Congratulations on your achievements! And thanks for the answer!
Becky says
Yes you want to get into the maintenance phase. If you start to plateau, start back to Phase 1. I’ve had to do that since I stopped losing weight for awhile. I’ll get to my goal of 180 lbs soon! Hurray! I’m 6 feet tall so can’t get too skinny. LOL!
Michelle says
Can you break up your “one” meal of the day into two? I just finished day one and couldn’t finish the meal. It was so big! Wondering if I can eat half of it for lunch and half for dinner the next couple days?
Thanks!
Becky says
Yes you can break up your meal. If you can’t eat it, then that’s fine. I also do intermittent fasting too.
marie says
Doesn’t look that easy to me. Wish I had someone to go on the diet with.
Becky says
Yes, having someone to coach you through it is helpful. However, you can do it yourself if you just have a main focus as your “why”. Why do you want to be healthier? Is it so you can see your kids grow up into adults? That’s why I am keeping on this diet. My parents died when I was in my 20s, so I want to get healthy so I can be with my son as long as I can.
Kathleen says
Do I have to follow this green drink exactly? We don’t like kale. Could I follow other green drink recipes?
Becky says
You could substitute kale with any other leafy green I think. I’d have to look at the book again.
Monica lopez says
Does this give you any diarrhea in the beginning?
Becky says
Hello Monica! Great question! I did get a mild case when I first started the juice. It ended up going away after I detoxed. You have to get all the impurities out of your system.
Brittany says
How do I get this deit started
Becky says
Hi! You should check out the book, The Sirtfood Diet, that I linked in the post.
Agueda says
Enjoyed reading the content above, really explains everything in detail, the article is
extremely interesting and effective. Thank you and good luck in the upcoming articles.
